The tradition of Japan teaches to respect our elders, so the Respect For the Aged Day is an important holiday celebrated in Japan. It is celebrated on the third Monday of September. It will be celebrated on Monday, 16th September in 2019. It is also known as the Senior’s Day, Respect For The Elders Day or Keiro no Hi. It is was formally recognized as a national holiday in 1996.
As the name suggests, this holiday is celebrated to pay tribute to our elders and express our respect for them and thank them for all the efforts they have made to build the society. Traditionally this holiday is celebrated by the Japanese by throwing parties for the elderly and bringing them gifts. Also, the Japanese citizens who have turned 100 years or older in the past 12 months are awarded a silver sake dish on this day.
