Japan standard time or JST is the standard time zone of Japan which 9 hours ahead from UTC ( coordinated universal time ) that is UTC + 09:00 , there is no daylight saving time in Japan ,it was often called as Tokyo standard time mainly during the World War 2nd.

Date and japan time notation in Japan has been followed by the Japanese calendar and their nengo system of counting years. Japan local time follows the both 12 – hour and 24 – hour notations format, basically, it uses the 12 – hour format but at the train scheduling Japan uses 24 – hour format. So , as we know that the time in Japan now works on JST that is Japan standard time but in starting the time zone of Japan was running on Daylight saving time or DST in Japan.

Japan observes the DST between every year of  May and September. Their was a problem with DST that people’s complaint about sleep disruption and longer daytime labor which causes Japan to abandon DST in 1952 , shortly just after it’s sovereignty was restored from the effect of the San Fransisco Peace Treaty . Since , from that DST has never been officially used Nationwide in Japan.

In the late 1990s , a movement was taken place to reinstate the DST in Japan which gained a lot of popularity which aims at saving the energy and increasing the recreational time. The Hokkaido region was in the favor of this movement because the daylight starts as early as 3:30 in summers , due to the high latitude and the location of Japan which is near the Eastern edge of the Japan time zone in which many of the regions solar time is actually very close to the UTC + 10:00 , because of this , the sun sets barely after 19:00 in some of the Eastern part of the country . Due to facing a lot of problems in Japan time now, the DST gets replaced by JST for solving these type of issues and problems. Nowadays the time Japan is successfully running on JST (JP time).

Map of Japan

The formerly used term for maps in Japan was believed to be Kata , which was probably used till the 8th century. The traditional Japanese maps are quite diverse in terms of style , depiction and purpose and were also used for the programmatic use. It was very less common for maps to serve the literary or decorative purpose as they might in the west instead of being used for the purposes like the differentiation of rice fields or orientation within a temple complex.

Many of the early Japanese maps were not very accurate according to the Western standards , this might be the result of Japan for being a closed society for several years. The oldest known map of Japan is topographical drawing which was discovered on a stone wall inside a tomb in the city of Kurayoshi in the Tottori Prefecture.

It was thought to have been made not for the practical navigational purposes but rather for a kind of celestial cartography given to the dead for maintaining a connection with the world of living and allowing them to orient themselves when moving to the other world. In the other Kofun burial tombs similar maps were also found. An evidence was also found that at least rudimentary surveying tools were already in the use in this era. One of the oldest written reference to maps in the Japanese source was also found in the Kojiki , in which the land records are also mentioned. The system by which these maps were measured was known as jori , which measures in units called tan and tsubo.
