Japan has an abundance of natural beauty so one such holiday to celebrate nature’s bounty is Marine day in Japan. It is celebrated on the third Monday of July every year. It will be observed on July 15th, 2019. This day is celebrated to cherish and appreciate the oceans and seas and the marine life which it consists of.
This day is known as Ocean day, Sea Day or ‘Umi no hi’. This day was declared as a public holiday in 1996. Before 1996, it was known as Marine Memorial Day. This holiday does not have any traditional ceremonies or rituals which are followed. But in the modern day, all the national aquariums and organize special events such as water sports, water shows and cultural activities.
